Publishing Internship 2015

Are you an enthusiastic, dependable individual who is looking for a solid introduction to the world of publishing? Are you willing to be a versatile assistant and do whatever is required while gaining meaningful, paid publishing experience?

We are a small, busy educational publishing house based in Johannesburg looking to take on an intern. We are growing fast and this is a genuine opportunity to gain some excellent hands-on experience.

As a member of our team, you will be exposed to every stage of the publishing process, including the conceptualising and commissioning of content, the production and printing processes, and the marketing of finished products.

During your three month internship, you will learn about acquisitions and permissions, copyright, editorial processes and reviews, scheduling and project management, design, typesetting, printing, marketing and digital publishing.

Additional duties that you will be expected to perform include but are not limited to: general administration (answering phones, assisting clients, invoicing, checking statements, packaging orders, keeping track of stock, running errands and much more).

Ideally, we are looking for a tenacious, meticulous, multitasker who is interested in starting a career in publishing and willing to do whatever is required to gain the necessary experience — someone who doesn't consider any task beneath him or her nor any challenge too great.

Applicants must have excellent written and spoken English, proficiency in MS Word and Excel, own transport, a love of reading and a great sense of humour!

In order to be considered for an interview, your application must be complete:

1)      Your CV accompanied by a short cover letter, no more than 250 words in length explaining why you are the ideal candidate for this placement.

2)      As a love of literature is a must for this position, please include a book review (written by you, of course) of the latest book you have read. It must not be more than 300 words in length.

Should any of the application requirements and guidelines not be included or adhered to, your application will not be considered.

Should your application be successful, we will contact you for an interview.

Closing Date: 17 June 2015

Location: Johannesburg

To apply, please email all of the following requirements to Jessica Weber
