Stats SA Grade 12 Opportunities 2015

Matric unemployed to Register on Stats SA database for contract employment opportunities in Fieldwork, Data capturing, Data processing, Supervisors, cleaners

Stats SA undertakes various surveys and projects, for example, Census, Community Survey, Labour Force Survey, General Household Survey, amongst others.

From time to time these surveys and projects require that contract staff be employed. You are invited to register online for inclusion on the database used to identify potential candidates for these contract positions. As the Census and Community Survey is conducted in every area of the country, people of every racial group and from all areas are encouraged to apply.

Location: Contract employment opportunities exist in different provinces and districts.

  • During Census and Community Survey, all areas of the country are covered.

  • Contract: An employment contract stipulating duration, job content, remuneration and other conditions, will be provided when opportunities for such contract employment arise.

  • Working tools: Those that will be employed and are issued with work tools, will be paid after the tools have been returned.

  • Area of work: Opportunities for contract employment usually arise as outlined below –

Duties and Required skills / competencies


  • Going door-to-door to collect information from households.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Driver’s license will be an added advantage.

  • Computer literacy.

Data capturing

  • Capturing of completed questionnaires (data)

  • Computer literacy

  • Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm

  • 95% accuracy

Data processing

  • Sorting, coding and quality checking

  • Computer literacy

Clerical and administrative

  • Jobs such as receptionist / secretary, general assistants (e.g. cleaners), etc.

  • Relevant administrative skills

  • Computer literacy


  • Supervision of any of the above categories where necessary

  • Supervisory experience

  • Drivers license (if applicable)

Applicant must:

  • be in possession of a minimum of a Senior Certificate (Matric or Grade 12  equivalent).

  • be proficient in English plus any other official language.

  • be willing to work on weekends and after hours.

  • be an RSA citizen and who do not have a criminal record.

Applicants must also note the following:

  • These contract employments will better suit those who are not employed elsewhere.

  • Applicants are required to upload the following documents when they apply and successful applicants will be required to submit the manual copies when they are invited for training:

  • An updated CV

  • Certified copies of ID, certificates / qualifications, transcript / tertiary results (if applicable), driver’s license (if any). Certification of the documents should not be older than 3 months.

NB: Failure to submit all the required documents may result in your registration on the database being disqualified.

  • Verification of applicant’s documents and / or reference checking will form part of the registration process.

  • Short-listed applicants will be subjected to a competency/and or training assessment.

  • Statistics South Africa reserves the right to register or not to register any applicant on the database for contract employment.

  • Applicants in censuses and surveys will be appointed within their local communities as no transport will be provided.

  • Submission of proof of residence or affidavit

  • Documents may be uploaded at a later stage however, not later than the closing date otherwise; your registration will be disqualified.
