Graduate Marketing Actuarial 2015

The  Swiss Re Graduate Programme gives you the chance to join the exciting world of a specialized financial services organization. Over an 18 month period, you will receive on-the-job training in your job role, as well as attend a significant number of training days specially designed for the program allowing you to develop a well-rounded curriculum including analytical, communication and leadership skills development linked to Swiss Re’s corporate principles and strategy. Additionally, you will undertake a 16–20 week job rotation into a different business area, where you will get further experience in another area of the company.The Swiss Re Life and Health (L&H) Client Markets team is responsible for the development and profitability of our business in Africa. We identify, analyze and monitor key business drivers and develop new products to support the growth of the L&H reinsurance business in Africa.

As a graduate in our team you will be working closely with client managers and product actuaries. You will have joint responsibility for client management and accompany client managers for South Africa (SA) and Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) to engagements where needed. Furthermore you will be supporting us in the monitoring and reporting of the SA key client plan execution and the SSA strategy, in managing the processes, preparing client facing documentation/ presentations and building direct relationships with appropriate individuals at clients to deepen the relationship stretch, and increase the number of relationships at different levels in the two organizations. Additionally you will be exposed to the products team by providing actuarial input and support on a range of projects and initiatives including experience studies, modelling and pricing.

About you

  • Successfully completed university degree in actuarial science

  • A desire to solve complex problems and identify the real issues that our clients face – Strong analytical skills and ability to focus on details, without losing track of the bigger picture

  • Strong motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance. Some knowledge of L&H (re)insurance products an advantage

  • Ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment

  • Interested to meet diverse people and explore

  • Mature & self-confident; ability to collaborate with clients, business partners and senior colleagues

  • Proven ability to work independently, with minimal instruction and monitoring

  • Approaches problems with curiosity and open-mindedness, is a fast learner

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Preference will be given to designated applicants as per the employment equity act
