Clinical Research Core Intern At K-Rith 2015

The KwaZulu-Natal Research Institute for TB-HIV (K-RITH) is a ground-breaking collaboration between the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Our mission is to conduct outstanding basic science research on tuberculosis (TB) and HIV, translate the scientific findings into new tools to control TB and HIV, and expand the educational opportunities in the region. K-RITH is an independent research institute that works in collaboration with UKZN and other academic and clinical institutions in South Africa and around the world. The institute is housed in the K-RITH Tower Building on the campus of the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine of UKZN.

Brief overview of the position:
The K-RITH Research Intern is responsible for assisting with the coordination and execution of functions related to the implementation and monitoring of TB and HIV research projects in the KZN region. Under direct supervision he/she performs clerical support for the Clinical Research Core following standard procedures with all work certified or checked.
The post, although offered as 1 year contract, is renewable annually.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Postgraduate Degree in Health, Psychology or Social Science disciplines

  • Good computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

  • Previous experience working on a research project

  • Must possess a valid South African Code B Driver’s License and own transport

Minimum Experience and Knowledge required:

  • Good knowledge of HIV/AIDS and TB

  • Knowledge of the scientific research process

  • Ability to capture and organise data electronically

  • Ability to write reports


  • Fluency in English

  • Own transport


The remuneration package for this internship is market related and will depend on the qualifications, experience, responsibility and previous earnings of the successful candidate.
