Job description:

  • Conduct thorough research on specific topics using the internet, libraries, books, magazines and other unique and inventive sources. Sole reliance on the internet as a source of information will not be accepted, as this is not adequate.
  • Ensure the format used to document research is in a format preferred and deemed acceptable by the ECD and MD.
  • Follow-up on new business leads and document research accordingly.
  • Ensure all research material is archived, organised and labeled according to the system in place. The archiving system created and utilised by the researcher must be user friendly, easy to follow and clearly marked.
  • Conduct interviews in person, over the telephone or using Skype, and ensure that these are adequately recorded and archived.
  • Take high quality notes of even the shortest conversations or pieces of research.
  • Work to tight deadlines set by the ECD and MD.
  • Summarise findings on specific topics and regularly send out an update of this summary to the ECD and MD to ensure that they are kept up-to-date.
  • Write creative briefs and storyboards for specific productions in order to develop writing skills. This will require combining research and the project brief to formulate an appropriate story line for a project, and according to which footage can be shot.
  • Update the necessary staff on any important developments in social media and online marketing and assist with updating the company’s website and social media sites with information, stills photographs and other news that is relevant.
  • Take initiative to constantly learn more about writing, researching techniques and online marketing.
  • Be prepared and willing to perform tasks outside the job description and assist with other areas of the business where required.


Relevant degree or diploma in journalism.
Excellent English writing skills.
Thorough knowledge of appropriate styles of referencing.
Organisational ability.
