Intern Statistician at Wits Health Consortium 2016

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC“) is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

Main purpose of the job

To provide data quality/statistical support for clinical studies at PHRU.

In collaboration with the data management team, senior statistician and principal investigators, the statistician will:

Provide support in monitoring quality of clinical study data

Prepare query listings for the attention of the relevant study team members

Provide statistical input to clinical projects in collaboration with the senior statistician

Contribute in the design and analysis of clinical studies

Develop statistical analysis plans for studies

Participate in the preparation of study reports

Be involved in writing academic publications

Provide statistical advice to researchers and post-graduate students

Prepare and present research output in local, regional and international conferences

Provide statistical input in support of regulatory submissions

Required minimum education and training

Honours Degree in Statistics or equivalent

Required minimum work experience

None but SAS programming experience desirable

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

Have a keen desire to pursue a career in biostatistics

Enthusiastic and willing to learn

Good oral and written communications skills

Good collaborative skills and ability to work with a cross-functional team

Basic understanding of statistical programming languages including SAS and STATA

Good level of skill with MS Word/Excel
