CSIR Internal Audit Internship 2016

The CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) has an Internship opportunity and the incumbent will assist in performing internal control, financial, compliance and operational audits as required by the annual audit plan. 

The Trainee will be assigned tasks related to various phases of audits including but not limited to; planning, fieldwork, documentation, logistics, data analytics and reporting. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key accountabilities
  • Develop an understanding of the audit approach, methodology and audit tools in order to demonstrate an ability to implement them;
  • Develop an understanding of the client business and the areas audited by demonstrating an ability to interpret the relevant policies and assess compliance;

  • Execute already established audit programs for assigned projects within the required time frame;
  • Undertake, as part of the team or individually, audit projects as scoped in the audit software used, by interviewing clients, documenting systems, testing controls and preparing working papers to support findings;
  • Document working papers in line with the Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) standards as part of gathering evidence for audit findings;
  • Formulate audit findings and make recommendations to the client;
  • Establish a working relationship with the client personnel to assess implementation of recommendations;
  • Compile audit certificates from time to time based on requests from clients.
  • A degree in internal auditing;
  • Basic knowledge of internal controls;
  • Familiarity with accounting and auditing concepts and theory;
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and email;
  • Good office administrative and record keeping skills;
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Good time management and planning skills;
  • Effective communication and listening skills;
  • Effective and professional writing skills;
  • Attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Sound work ethic and ability to work teams is essential.
