HSBC Africa Graduate Programme 2016

Headquartered in London, HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. HSBC Africa runs a Graduate Programme for which we source talented graduates from local universities.

The programme starts in January 2017 and continues for 18 months, aimed at providing the graduates with practical work experience in their chosen field.

The HSBC Graduate Programme identifies and develops talented graduates who will aspire to be the future leaders of our business. We are looking for academically successful individuals who share in our values and are passionate about pursuing a career in banking within one of the world’s most successful financial institutions.

This programme offers a variety of exciting opportunities within our organisation to work alongside and learn from extremely successful, talented individuals.

The overall objective of the programme is to provide you with a solid foundation to develop your career as a well-rounded, professional banker through a structured, specialised development programme.

Programme structure
A graduate will be placed in a specific department for the duration of the programme. There will be no rotation. As a graduate you will be provided with specific objectives that need to be achieved and provided with performance feedback every three months.

HSBC an informal mentoring programme in place and you will have the opportunity to select your own mentor within three months on the programme. It is then your responsibility to build and maintain the relationship with your mentor.

What to expect
Supported by experienced managers, colleagues and a wide network of diverse peers, you’ll be encouraged to take on responsibility and bring new ideas to the table. You will be valued as an individual and for the contribution you make. Over the 18-month programme, you’ll discover first-hand what it takes to thrive in our challenging, fast-paced, high performance environment. Learning, development and support.

At HSBC we encourage and support continuous professional development, you will be required to take accountability for identifying your learning requirements and discussing these with you manager and where appropriate, these will be funded by HSBC.

Throughout this programme, a combination of formal and on-the-job training will stretch and develop your capabilities. We have partnered with a leading business school and customised an Accelerated Graduate Development Programme which successful candidates will complete as part of the Programme.

  • All candidates with a degree or completing a degree in 2016, under 35 years old and if presently working, with no more than 2 years working experience
  • Completion of post-graduate studies would be advantageous
  • Start or completion towards a CFA qualification would be advantageous
  • Act with integrity, in keeping with HSBC’s values
  • Be hard-working, self-motivated and willing to take on new challenges
