Research Assistant Internship at ARASA 2016

Aids & Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA) is a regional partnership of over 106 non-governmental organisations working together to promote a human rights based response to HIV and TB in southern and east Africa, through capacity building and advocacy.

ARASA seeks to appoint an Intern, based at ARASA’s Advocacy Unit in Cape Town.

The selected individual will work closely with the Advocacy team in their capacity as an Intern. Amongst other duties, such as assistance with the development of ARASA's campaigns, there will also be a requirement to provide support in the development of an ARASA document repository which will be made up of international, regional and national policy, research and health documents from ARASA's focus countries.

The intern will be required to keep abreast with best practices and developments on aspects of HIV/TB, SRHR, human rights and law southern and east Africa. The Intern will also be expected to support country-level partners with queries.

This is a fixed-term contract for a period of 6-10 months.

  • Assist with desktop research and development of research questionnaires
  • Information management – including creating an online filing system
  • Support partners with research and information sharing needs
  • Assist the Advocacy unit and country-level partners with documentation on incidents of human rights violations
  • Assist with the dissemination of advocacy materials through social media fora
  • Office administrative support (from time to time)
  • Possess a thorough understanding of TB/ HIV, sexual & reproductive health and rights (SRHR), human rights and law
  • Extensive experience working within networks, that include members from diverse backgrounds (advantageous)
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in computer management systems (CMS)
  • Fluency in English and preferably another language (French or Portuguese)
  • A strong research background
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
