Trainee at Homechoice 2018

The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible to assist and support with driving financial sales, gross margin and inventory plans for categories under management by an experienced Merchandise Planner.



The candidate will need to have strong analytical skills, a trader instinct, be innovative, a team player, and think like an entrepreneur. As a Trainee Planner, you will follow a structured training and development process, whereby you will be required to present your learning's to senior staff in order to assess your progress.

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Assist in achieving financial KPAs 

  • Driving revenue as measured by demand and net sales 
  • Managing category margin 
  • Maximizing the conversion of demand to net sales 
  • Managing category stock efficiency 
  • Managing stock availability 

Assist in Merchandise financial planning 

  • Developing a balanced range & react to trade to rebalance the range 
  • Managing inventory so as to achieve targeted stock efficiencies 
  • Managing forward buy levels in accordance with OTB 
  • Managing the inflow of stock so as to achieve stock availability targets 

Trading

  • Manage promotions & engage with channel owners so as to drive sales velocity 
  • Stay abreast of market trends so as to implement best in class practices 
  • Analytics 
  • Produce timely reporting to ensure management remain up-to-date on category performance
  • Undertake analysis that supports or challenges category/business strategy 
  • Ensure that capturing of quality data so as to support quality analysis 

Process improvement 

  • Identify & drive process improvements 
  • Support strategic corporate projects 

Qualifications & Accreditations 

  • Tertiary Commercial / Retail Qualification, preferably University Degree 

Experience & Skills 

  • Computer literate with Excel (Advance), MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
