Idols Auditions 2018

Are you South Africa’s next Idol? Then heed the call to attend our Idols SA Season 14 auditions.

We’ve finally put to bed the record-smashing 13th season of one of South Africa’s most beloved reality singing shows, Idols SA, but our search for talent is not ending anytime soon. Starting this January, we’re fueling up and taking our auditions bus on a countrywide tour like no other.

If you think you possess the vocal chops to rival the best of the best, then this is your chance to share your talent with Mzansi (and the world) and become a millionaire while at it.

If you think you have what it takes to walk away with the title, then ‘save the date’ and dance with destiny at our audition venues across South Africa.

Idols SA is screened exclusively on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) on Sundays at 17:30. It will also be available on DStv Catch Up on your PC, only once the show has aired.

Idols voting opens  during the live shows on Sundays during the show and closes on  Tuesdays at 10pm.

Auditions: Survivor South Africa 2017

M-Net has renewed Survivor South Africa for the sixth season and entries are open for Survivor lovin' contenders who want an adventure in 2018.

According to M-Net, the series is looking for:

- Players who are fans of the local and international series,

- Players who have what it takes to survive the harsh conditions of a remote island,

- Players who are ready to create fireworks in their tribes and win the game with their unique, strategic gameplay.

The initial round of auditions are happening online so you need to get your video vibez on if you want a spot on the island.

Alternatively, you can write a motivation as an entry but the show would prefer a video so we recommend that you do this instead.

You need to be 18 years old or over as at 30 November 2017.

Here's an overview of the entry process:

How to enter: Option 1

STEP ONE: You need a full-length photo of yourself.

STEP TWO: Make a video or write a motivation of 200 to 300 words. (A video is preferred)

STEP THREE: Fill out the application form on M-Net's website and upload your photo and video here.

STEP FOUR: Entries close on 26 November 2017. The show will be in touch if they want to see you for an audition.

Auditions: Cast for new drama - Nkululeko

Bomb (producers of Isibaya and Isithembiso) and The Narrators Africa Productions are looking to cast a new drama series that's going to be filmed in Cape Town in November.

It's called Nkululeko and the production is looking for Cape Town based male and female actors between the ages of 19 and 30.

Auditions are happening next week (11 - 15 September).

Auditions: Our Perfect Wedding

Mzansi Magic's Our Perfect Wedding has always been known for its revolving door presenter policy and now the series has given this new meaning: the next host will be selected via a public vote Presenter Search.

Thembisa Mdoda has headlined the show for the past two seasons, along with guest presenters.

According to Mzansi Magic, Thembisa's contract has come to an end so the search is on for someone to replace her as the new full-time host.

The auditions are happening at the beginning of spring and it's a highly notable gig to land. It's the No.1 show on DStv, which means that whoever hosts it will get noticed - look at what it's done for Thembisa's career.

The downer is that auditions are only happening in three cities when they should be happening in all nine provinces! #Cheap

The series is looking for a presenter who has a warm personality and the ability to connect with viewers.

The potential presenter will be auditioned by the producers and shortlisted for a second round of auditions.
A panel of judges will select the contestants who will compete in a public vote in the final phase.

Auditions: Mzansi Insider Presenter 2017

Mzansi Insider is a live breakfast show on SABC 1 from 10am to 11h00 every Saturday and Sunday that reflects and touches on the views of young people. It looks at the challenges and opportunities that exist in the world they live in, what inspires them and what they deem to be ‘fun.’

Throughout the show viewers are able to interact through various social media platforms with the hosts and pose questions to experts.

At any given point one can find stories on poetry, music, film, stand-up comedy, fitness, cooking, social challenges and entertainment news. Mzansi Insider viewers also have first hand access through the show to seek guidance from a panel of experts on issues such as relationships, health, careers and inspiration.

Mzansi Insider originally covered lifestyle events and incorporated user-generated content to draw in viewers and make them part of the Mzansi Insider experience.

Using social networking platforms, viewers were able to connect and be part of the show using live feeds from Facebook and Twitter.

SABC1's breakfast show Mzansi Insider is on a quest to find a new presenter.

Audtions: The Playhouse Company

The Playhouse Company is holding auditions for young performers to join its Actors’ Studio, a resident company aimed primarily at recent graduates who hold a tertiary qualification in drama.

Young professionals with no less than three years practical stage experience will also be considered.

Successful candidates will join the Playhouse Actors’ Studio for a period of 8 months during which they will attend workshops and master classes aimed at enhancing their practical skills and further developing their talent in a professional theatre environment.

The Studio will also provide opportunities for its members to appear in Playhouse Company productions with established guest artists and to develop educational tours and outreach programmes.

Those interested in auditioning must prepare the following:

1. Personal testimonies – a) your past involvement in the arts b) motivation for wanting to be a part of the programme

2. Written Idea of a play - provide a synopsis of a story (1/5 page) with an attached rationale

3. Audition - A prepared monologue for audition. (Piece must come from a South African writer)

4. List of other areas of interest within the arts

5. Provide two referees that we can contact to verify commitment, discipline and drive.

6. Short listed candidates must be prepared to participate in a two day workshop (Monday and Tuesday 7 to 8 August 2017) and must be available to being the programme immediately.

Auditions will be held on Monday 7 August 2017 in Studio A1 (Playhouse Head Office, 29 Acutt Street, Durban). Please note that you might be required to wait for your audition. Booking is essential.

Auditions: 7deLaan

7de Laan is a South African Afrikaans soap opera created by Danie Odendaal and produced by Danie Odendaal Productions.

7de Laan is on a search for two aspiring actors to join the soapie as interns. The successful candidates will be cast in roles and will learn the ins and outs of acting on the job.

These are the roles the show is looking to cast:

Character A:

A flamboyant Indian female character aged between 18 and 25. She's bright, outgoing and trendy with a bubbly personality.

Character B:

A Coloured male character, also aged between 18 and 25. He has a love for fashion, he's energetic and has a pleasant personality.

If you think you can portray either of these characters, then this is what you need to know:

Auditions: MTN Joyous Celebration is searching for new talent 2017

Do you want be a gospel star? After 21 years of unearthing and nurturing talent, MTN Joyous Celebration is searching for new talent.

The gospel group will hold auditions in Cape Town, Joburg and Durban.

Registration for the Cape Town auditions is open until midday tomorrow.

The Cape Town auditions will be held on Thursday.

Clicks Beauty Cover Model Search 2017 Competition

The search is on for the 2017 Clicks Cover Model, which has become the platform to springboard the careers of South Africa's modelling talent. 

Women entering must be between the ages of 18-30 and must be South African citizens. Entries close on Wednesday, 31 May 2017.

Open castings will take place during the first two weeks of June in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, followed by the Top 100 and Top 10 announcements. 

The public will then be encouraged to vote for their favourite entrant from the Top 10 between 4 and 10 July.

The winner of the 2017 Clicks Cover Model Search will be announced in July 2017 and will adorn the cover of over 1 million Clicks Beauty Fair leaflets and the Clicks ClubCard magazine. 

She will also receive a full portfolio shoot and a three-year modelling contract with top modelling agency D&A Model Management to kick-start her career, as well as a R10,000 Clicks gift card, R20,000 worth of beauty products and manicures and pedicures to the value of R3,295 from Sorbet.

Last year’s winner, Kerusha Govender, was in the Top 25 of Miss South Africa 2016 and 2015’s winner, Boipelo Mabe, was recently crowned Second Princess in Miss South Africa 2017.


“Aspiring Clicks Cover Models need to have good skin, a beautiful smile and a healthy, fit body,” says Andrea Baptista, director of D&A Model Management. “We are looking for an outgoing individual with exceptional confidence. She needs to be a great speaker and witty conversationalist, with a sparkle in her eyes.”

Entrants need to upload three colour photos of themselves. Baptista advises the following tips to make an entry stand out:
  • Make sure you are in a place with good lighting and that your photographs are not taken at an awkward angle. 
  • There should be no distractions, such as other people crowding the photo.

Auditions: Actors

Looking for actors to star in an upcoming Afrikaans student short film shooting between the 20th to the 29th of July (Subject to change).

LOGLINE: When Chris wakes from a 20-year coma, he realizes that he is somehow 3 days in the past, but as a 40-year-old man. He must now find a way to restore things to normal or face the reality that the future he spent the last few years of his youth building, will never exist.

LEAD: (Please Note: All actors required to be fluent in Afrikaans).

2 X CHRIS KRUGER – MALE (Early twenties): An interesting opportunity for Afrikaans twins (or brothers who look very similar) to play both the older and younger versions of Chris, who accidentally travels back in time and meets his 20-year old self in the present. Fathers and sons (who look similar) also welcome to audition. (Young Chris must look 20 and Older Chris around 40 years old)

DR. MARIÉ LOOTS – FEMALE (Mid-Late thirties): A doctor who is really good at her job, but yearns for more. Since her sister died when they were young, she has wanted to save people’s lives, but in an ideal world, she would like to stop them from becoming sick in the first place.

ERIKA SMAL – FEMALE (Early twenties): An outgoing dance student, Erika loves the spontaneity of life and tries to enjoy every moment. The actor is not required to be able to dance, but must look the part.

RIAAN GOOSEN – MALE (Early twenties): A good looking and smart guy studying accounting. He is Erika’s boyfriend and Chris’s irritation. If he wasn’t dating Chris’s crush, they would be best friends.

Auditions: The Final Cut

SABC3 has announced the launch of the channel's version of SABC1's acting reality show Class Act and BETs Top Actor.

It's called The Final Cut and it's a reality search to find two actors to join an SABC show.

There's no confirmation of which shows the winners will be cast in but it will either be a soapie or a drama, depending on who lands The Final Cut and which shows require new actors.

The series is looking for 14 undiscovered actors (who haven't been on TV before) for a 13-episode acting challenge.

Each week, the finalists will be put through acting challenges that will test their craft. Challenges are going to include learning a script in 15 minutes, character improvisation, character makeovers and genre intrepretation.

Someone will be eliminated by the judges each week and the two winners will be cast in series.

Pros and cons

The con

The auditions are only happening in three cities so the search doesn't have a nationwide reach. Castings are only happening in Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and East London from 22 April to 13 May.

The pro

East London and Pietermaritzburg are often excluded when it comes to reality show auditions so it's a good opportunity for the acting talent in these areas.

If you live in another city you can audition in the three cities if you're in the area on the day.

Miss Jozi is a search for young determined, confident, intellectual & well-groomed ladies; aged 17 to 27 years; living within and around the respective communities of Johannesburg. 

The Miss Jozi organizers are a young and energetic team whose mission is to show young women that they can be whatever they want in this life, starting with being Miss Jozi. Miss Jozi's inspirational figure is Miss South Africa.

Auditions: Muvhango

Muvhango continues to tell the fascinating story of two branches of one family torn apart and how they battle to try and keep together through it all. It is about family values, and the strength of families holding together.

The show has also remained true to its vision of telling the real African renaissance story and culture. Muvhango looks forward to celebrating many years of being part of a television history in South Africa.

If you've always wanted to be on Muvhango and you live in Venda, now is your chance.

The soapie has auditioned in Venda before and they're headed your way again.

The production will be holding open auditions this Saturday (8 April) in a search of new actors, men and women.

The auditions are happening at The Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou.

Registration starts at 09h00 and closes at 12h00.

The show is looking to cast specific characters and will also be inspired by the people who come to audition e.g. if you don't suit a particular character you might be the inspiration for a new one.

Applications Open for Y Acadamey 2017

The Y Academy is the most ambitious training and development program ever put together by any media house, in South Africa or anywhere in the world.

It's an intensive six-month skills development program that is accredited by the MICT-SETA in partnership with ETV, eAcademy and Sabido.

Candidates learn how to produce content, how to conduct interviews, how to write news bulletins, how to select and schedule music, how to produce promotional clips, how to market events and how to sell advertisements.

At the end of it all candidates have an opportunity to get behind the microphone to show the world what they are made of.
  • The Y Academy program runs for 6 months, and is based at the YFM studios in Hyde Park, Gauteng.
  • Applicants that wish to apply must be unemployed South African citizens over the age of 18 years and must have a valid South African identity document.
  • This is an equal opportunity initiative therefore people living with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
  • The hours of the skills development program are 08:30 - 17:30, everyday, including weekends and public holidays if need be.
  • Candidates that live outside of Gauteng must be willing to relocate at their own cost for at least 6 months.
  • A minimal stipend will be paid to cover local transport costs.

Auditions: Idols

Auditions for the 13th installment of Idols begin on the 14 January with the first auditions kicking off in Cape Town.

Resident judges Unathi Msengana, Randall Abrahams and Somizi Mhlongo will be back to judge and will be joined by a different guest judge at each venue who will replace Gareth Cliff following his resignation last year.

Auditions: MTV Shuga

The MTV Staying Alive Foundation and MTV Base (DStv channel 322) are inviting South African youth to audition for the upcoming production of TV drama MTV Shuga.

MTV Shuga producers are looking to cast fresh home-grown talent to fill a range of male and female roles in the award-winning drama series, alongside returning cast members such as South African actress Mohau Mokoatle Cele, who plays the role of “Bongi” in the series. As well as a number of principal roles, four minor roles will be chosen through online and on-the-ground auditions.

Open auditions for MTV Shuga will be held on 15 October between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm at Bassline, Newtown, Johannesburg.

To be eligible to audition, you must:
 Be a South African resident
Be between the ages of 18 and 35,
with good spoken English and
Have a clean criminal record.
No previous acting experience is necessary.

Candidates are required to bring along photo ID and a good quality portrait of themselves (minimum size: 7 cm x 5 cm).  Applicants must be available for filming in Johannesburg between December 2016 and January 2017.

Previously filmed in Kenya and Nigeria, season 5 of MTV Shuga is being supported by South Africa’s Ministry of Basic Education, PEPFAR (The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief), Marie Stopes International, ViiV Healthcare's Positive Action, and CIFF (Children's Investment Fund Foundation).

Set and filmed in South Africa for the first time, season 5 of MTV Shuga will include a new focus on storylines relevant to South African youth, including adolescent girls and their vulnerability to HIV infection and unintended pregnancy, alongside other storylines relating to sexual and emotional issues affecting young people.

MTV Shuga will premiere on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322)) and BET (DStv channel 129) and other terrestrial broadcasters and other MTV networks and third party broadcasters around the world from 8 March 2017.  Other elements of the MTV Shuga campaign will include a radio drama series, peer educator programme, comic book, mobile information service, social media and a range of digital platforms.

Auditions: The Voice SA for Season 2

M-Net has renewed The Voice SA for Season 2 and the search is on for voices to compete. The new season starts in January 2017 and the auditions are coming up in October - the same month that Season 1 winner and runner-up Richard Stirton and Gavin Edwards release their first albums.

They're happening in four cities this time: Cape Town, Joziburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth for the first time.

Audition must-knows

- These initial auditions aren't filmed for TV because this is where the initial selection of voices takes place. An anonymous panel of music experts judge these auditions and decide on who will make it through to the show's Blind Auditions where auditionees sing for the series judges. The Blind Auditions air on TV.

- You need to be 18 on the day of your audition but there is no upper age limit. You need to take your ID with you to the audition.

- You need to be a South African citizen or permanent resident.

- You will have to sign a document stating that you don't have an existing recording contract with any recording contract (to avoid a Siyakha repeat)

- Take water and other necessities like sunscreen to the audition in case you have a long wait.

You can also try for a fast track through the process by submitting a track online. You can upload your track on The Voice website here: The Voice

If you enter online you stand a chance of being accepted for the fast track day, which is seperate from the open audition days.

If you aren't accepted for a fast track day you can still attend the open auditions so you can essentially audition twice.

Auditions: Actor at HDI 2016

Since 1996, we have developed specialist ways of connecting with this market in the schools, malls, communities and digital playgrounds of urban, peri-urban and rural South Africa. And, since 2009, we have been doing the same thing in East and West Africa.

In late-2013, HDI became part of the global marketing and advertising group, TBWA\.

We are looking for male actors to work in the Gauteng region (please note some travel is involved).

Requirements (compulsory)
  • Between 22-30 years' old
  • Valid drivers licence and use of own vehicle

AUDITIONS: The Lion King Auditions 2016

Duma Ndlovu’s Word of Mouth Pictures (who make Muvhango) are holding their annual Lion King auditions this month and will be searching in in Johannesburg and Durban this year.

Word of Mouth is the official casting agents for Disney’s THE LION KING.

THE LION KING, has been running for over 18 years and have over the period featured South African singers in all its productions.

This time the Hong Kong Production is coming to town to seek more South African Talent.

Word of Mouth Pictures calls on interested singers between the ages of 20 and 30, to come and audition for a chance to go overseas and join one of the world’s longest running Broadyway Productions.
