Senmin Learnership Opportunity 2017

Senmin is a manufacturer and supplier of mining chemicals used in the beneficiation of a wide range of ores such as platinum, copper, zinc, coal etc as well as polyacrylamides used for tailings treatment. In addition, Senmin supplies a full-service model for the seamless make-up and application of all of its reagents on a 24/7 basis.


The company has invested in state-of-the-art technology, with respect to its new production facilities, to meet expanding mining requirements.

These production and technology, environmentally responsive investments will deliver new speciality products and will complement Senmin’s existing product range to meet the growing demands of mines throughout South and Southern Africa, Australasia and Chile.

Senmin International would like to appoint 16 unemployed Learners to train in a Chemical Operations (NQF 2) qualification. The Learnership period will be of 12 months duration. The training will involve both Chemical Operations theory and a practical component at various AECI operations in the Sasolburg area.

Senmin supplies a range of chemicals used in the beneficiation of minerals. Most of its products are utilised in the froth flotation and tailings treatment segments of the mining industry in South Africa, Southern Africa and further afield. In addition, Senmin provides customers with value-adding expertise in the handling and dosage of its products.

Duties & Responsibilities 
• Attendance of theoretical classes at the AECI Training Centre situated in Sasolburg Complex for a period of approximately 2 months.
• Undertake Plant Operator experiential training with a Chemical Plant environment.
• Undertake Shift work and/or Overtime duties as and when required.
• Achieve competency in all relevant NQF Level 2 Unit Standards and compile a Portfolio of Evidence in support of this qualification.

Qualifications & Experience 
• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification in Mathematics and Physical Science.
• Age group 18 – 25 years.
• Ability to work within a Chemical Plant environment.
• Basic computer literacy would be an advantage.
• Must reside in the Sasolburg area.

Rand West City Learnership Opportunity 2017

Rand West City is a newly established local municipality in the Gauteng province. It was established after the August 3, 2016 local government elections by amalgamating Randfontein and the Westonaria local municipalities.



These municipalities were part of the West Rand District Municipality. In the local government elections, the African National Congress got the most votes – 53% of all votes cast. The African National Congress won 37 of 69 council seats with the Democratic Alliance getting the next highest number of seats – 19. The new municipality has an executive mayor system with an ANC member holding the position of mayor.

The creation of the new municipality was, in part, a result of poor financial administration in the local municipalities. In the 2014/15 financial year, Randfontein received a qualified opinion from the Auditor General. Westonaria received an Audit not finalised at legislated date opinion.
