Development Unit Intern at Legal Resources Centre 2018

The Legal Resources Centre seeks to employ a Development Unit Intern, to be based in Johannesburg.

The Legal Resources Centre is an independent, client-based, non-profit public interest law clinic, which uses law as an instrument of justice.

It works for the development of a fully democratic society based on the principle of substantive equality, by providing free legal services for the vulnerable and marginalised, including the poor, homeless, and landless people and communities of South Africa who suffer discrimination by reason of race, class, gender, disability or by reason of social, economic and historical circumstances.

This is a six months fixed term contract and there is no prospect for renewal.

  • Research fundraising opportunities with lapsed and new donor prospects, with the aim of generating new income from individuals, small family trusts and CSI’s, diversifying the organisations income sources
  • Contribute to the distribution of the LRC’s marketing material
  • Contribute to the design and upkeep of corporate identity
  • Coordinate with various departments for information required for reporting
  • Assist in planning and execution of key fundraising events within the LRC and provide effective follow-up afterwards
  • Update donor database
  • Contribute to newsletter regarding trends in the funding sector and updates from the respective focus areas
  • Research, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, independently and with others
  • Ability to network with partner organisations and donors
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • An appropriate Social Sciences undergraduate qualification
  • A passion for Human Rights work
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Quality writing and editing skills
  • Website and social media content management
  • Events planning and coordination skills
  • Valid driver’s licence
