Partnerships Internship at Global Citizen 2018

Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030. On our platform, Global Citizens learn about the systemic causes of extreme poverty, take action on those issues, and earn rewards for their actions — as part of a global community committed to lasting change.

So far, more than 13 million actions have been taken by Global Citizens, leading to $35 billion commitments being made by world leaders, which are set to affect 1.3 billion lives by 2030.

Internship Summary

We're looking for a passionate, focused, and organised intern to work with Global Citizen’s Partnerships Team for a 3-month internship period based in Johannesburg starting 10 September to 10 December 2018 for 3 days per week (Monday/Wednesday/Thursday). You support and learn from our Partnerships Managers who work with Corporations and Non-Profit Organisations.


  • Support Partnerships Managers on executing corporate and NGO partners campaigns
  • Support Partnerships Managers on the strategic planning and execution of activities leading up to GCF Mandela 100
  • Assist with outreach efforts focused on Global Citizen’s partnerships with NGOs and local actors on issues such as water and sanitation, food and nutrition security, education, the environment, and gender equality
  • Undertake research briefs regarding policy and advocacy issues, funding opportunities, and potential upcoming events
  • Support Partnership Managers on logistics around various events and activations in the lead up to GCF Mandela 100
  • Attend and assist with implementing actions from partnership meetings
  • Assist to draft mini impact reports following action events and track partnership opportunities
  • Assist with Global Citizen partner follow-up emails and tracking project plans on a weekly basis
  • Assist with administrative duties including scheduling, note-taking, and meeting setup
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in humanities or social science, marketing, communications, and/or a related field preferred. Current undergraduates also accepted
  • Demonstrated commitment to Global Citizen's mission and vision
  • Knowledge and experience with corporates, non-governmental organizations, international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-profit organisations
  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience identifying and developing partner relationships
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
  • Attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to handle projects with professionalism and discretion
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, and Google Calendar
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Interest in international development and economic empowerment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with variety of individuals and organizations
  • Can-do attitude and willingness to roll up sleeves and work hard to tight deadlines
  • Ability to show initiative
  • Creative flare and not afraid to pitch out-of-the-box ideas

Reports to Partnership Manager
Minimum 3 days per week in Rosebank Office
This is a paid position.
Must be authorized for employment in South Africa
