SCBU Cricket Writer Internship:

The Sports Specialised Content Business Unit (SCBU) together with Central Gauteng Lions has a vacancy for an Intern Cricket Writer. The Intern will work Only in Gauteng

The aim is to profile Central Gauteng Lines teams inclusive of Imperial Lions, Men and Women Semi Professional teams, Academy, Clubs, Schools, Blind cricket and Deaf cricket as well as Jozi Stars. This will also include player profiling and the state of development cricket in Gauteng.

The successful incumbent will be responsible:

  • For producing accurate and fair sports content that reflects the strategy of the sports business unit for use across all editorial platforms and specialised commercial units
  • Produce multi-media print, digital and video sport stories that include: human interest, breaking news, backgrounders, features, analysis and compelling sport content for use across multiple platforms.
  • Meets the deadline demands of production across the various multiple platforms
  • Consistently projects a positive image of the Independent Media sport brand.
  • Will be required to perform any other duties as and when required across regions and platforms.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have or be studying towards a tertiary qualification in journalism or equivalent.
  • high levels of literacy and the ability to make critical & valid judgement,
  • Have a strong presence on social media with a number of followers.
  • Must be willing to travel

Required Competencies

  • Be technologically well-advanced on all social network platforms
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with high level contacts
  • Must have the ability to think creatively.
  • Be a self-starter that shows initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Be extremely motivated and driven to work in a highly pressurised fast-paced environment.
  • Be highly flexible in working long, irregular hours, nightshift, weekends and public holidays as per the sporting calendar
  • Be prepared to travel
  • The ability to work under constant deadlines pressure
