Cenfri Business Developement Internship Opportunity 2020

Cenfri is looking for curious individuals with a passion for real world development to join the team as Business Development interns. Your role will be in supporting the current business development activities for Cenfri and being part of the team designing the long-term business development vision for Cenfri.

The role is Cape Town based and would be to coordinate and support the Business Development portfolio, including, reporting on key activities; reviewing terms of reference documents; extracting key insights for decision making; coordinating business pipeline information for management team and scanning market and client intelligence information.

If you are currently completing an MBA or a Masters degree in Economics or related fields (finance, development, statistics, politics, and law) and are interested in obtaining work experience while studying, you are strongly encouraged to apply. Knowledge of the donor environment and procurement, as well as business development experience would be to your advantage.

Cenfri  is an independent, non-profit think tank, based in Cape Town, South Africa. We explore the role of the financial sector and financial services in improving societal outcomes. Our work covers a broad set of issues in financial sector development and extends to developing and emerging markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America. This includes, but is not limited to, growth and capital markets, integrity, cross-border flows, consumer behaviour and new consumer data sources, retail financial services, and the emerging role of new technologies in changing the financial landscape (e.g. Fintech, Insurtech, Regtech).

Our core focus is on generating insights that can inform policymakers, market players and donors seeking to unlock development outcomes through inclusive financial services and the financial sector more broadly.

We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:

  • Advanced English language skills (verbal and written) with additional languages such as Spanish, French and/or Portuguese an advantage;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills;
  • Entrepreneurial flair;
  • Proficiency in MS office applications;
  • Demonstrated interest in the field of development economics and financial sector development;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • A strong interest in research-related activities
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.


This is a 3 month opportunity with the possibility of further engagement.
