Burn Media Writing Internship Opportunity 2020

Burn Media is looking for a talented and driven full time paid writing intern to work on the Memeburn and Gearburn websites. We are looking for someone who is especially interested in social media, technology at large and other facets of internet culture.

Do you follow the ebbs and flows of technology, social trends and internet culture? Do you boast the unique ability to craft letters into words, and words into factual works of art? Are you currently on the hunt for a job at a media institution in Cape Town?

If you answered yes to all three questions, you might just be the intern Burn Media is looking for.

Job description

  • Full-time role with an expectation of at least 38 hours per week across three months.
  • You’ll be tasked with writing between 10 and 15 news/feature-length pieces each week across the internship.
  • These articles will be related to all things technology, internet and online culture.
  • You’ll be assigned articles by editors, but will also be required to pitch your own ideas for features and longer pieces.


  • Tertiary education in a relevant field such as journalism or content marketing
  • Familiarity with the WordPress content management system
  • An excellent command of the English language.
  • A desire to learn, showcase your talents and accept and grow from constructive criticism.·       
  • An understanding of journalistic integrity and the ethics of reporting.
  •  Basic sub-editing skills, especially for your own work.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work from home if need be, including your own internet connection and PC or laptop.


  • Video and audio editing skills.
  • News writing experience
