Black Umbrellas Research Internship Opportunity is for learners who are dedicated to the principles of enterprise development and would like to be part of a committed team passionate about South Africa’s economic prosperity.

Stakeholders

  • To work with the Stakeholder department to improve the research capacity of the department.
  • To keep up-to date with the relevant BBBEE legislation, giving trends and prepare brief reports of the learnings for the Stakeholder department.
  • To investigate, analyse, and synthesize large quantities of data into a user-friendly and concise format for the use of the Stakeholder department.

Fundraising

  • Undertake strategic research to enable deep market understanding, understand potential donors, and drive effective decision-making across the fundraising team.
  • Lead on identifying and researching high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations, companies, community partners, government representatives and high-profile influencers
  • Build regular reporting frameworks and context analysis to provide rapid support across the team, including market and potential donor analysis.
  • Develop and manage processes to ensure a steady flow of prospects and advise on the stewardship plans and pipelines. Lead on the development of the prospect pipeline.

  • Provide insight into understanding Donor (Government, Corporates, Trusts & Foundations, and Individuals) requirements and interests to maximize the Donor experience.
  • Lead in preparing prospective donor profiles aligned with the fundraising sector focus.
  • Utilise a broad spectrum of sources researching, evaluating a prospective donor’s financial capacity, charitable interests and ability to give.
  • Produce in depth, well- written reports on prospective donors based on a combination of data from the donor database, available financial records and other markers of high-quality donors.
  • Write frequent prospective donor briefs for the use of the fundraising department.
  • Implement new research techniques as they arise, striving to design ultimate prospective donor research methodology.
  • Support and contribute to organizational learning, through analysis of proposal successes and failures, analysis of BU competitiveness and the funding environment, and active participation in shared learning across BU.
