The candidate attorney will assists the legal professionals of the law firm in performing their tasks efficiently, all while gaining vital practical experience, and learning as much as possible to help a candidate attorney achieve their dream of becoming a registered attorney.  

Education Requirements: 

  • Legal Aid SA will only accept applications from LLB graduates. Applicants will need to attach their academic transcripts when applying.
  • Legal Aid SA accepts a minimum degree average of 60%.
  • No driver’s licence is required, and applicants will not be penalised for not having a driver’s licence. 
Skills Requirements: 
  • Proactive attitude, with enthusiasm for Corruption Watch’s mission and vision;
  • Ability to work closely with diverse group of professionals and different departments;
  • Excellent administrative and file management skills;
  • Ability to adapt in a fast changing environment;
  • Desktop forensic investigation experience will be an advantage;
  • Preferably fluency in at least one African language;
  • Excellent computer literacy skills; and

Do note that Legal Aid SA receives a large number of applications, and follows a stringent candidate screening and selection process. 


Legal Aid SA provides opportunities for 300 Candidate Attorneys per annum.

The organisation works on a push system for Candidate Attorney recruitment, meaning that at all material times, the positions are filled. Applicants are assessed and pre-screened for appointability and are matched to opportunities as they arise.

The demand to serve articles with Legal Aid SA exceeds the number of opportunities available in a given year multifold times. Therefore, do not expect automatic or immediate placement. Do also submit applications to serve articles elsewhere.
