Apply now for the Nal’ibali Story Sparker 2024. Nal’ibali (isiXhosa for “here’s the story”) seeks to spark and embed a culture of reading in children from birth to 12 years of age across South Africa by cultivating enticing reading content in all South African languages.
We are launching a USAID-funded programme in the uMgungundlovu District of KZN that will strive to improve the early learning outcomes and school readiness of children from the local communities. The activities will focus on supporting families, early childhood educators, and other community members who engage with young children.
Story Sparker Requirements:
Languages: Fluent in English and isiZulu
Education: Matric certificate
Skills:
- Computer literate
- Strong administration skills
- Experience: Previous work experience (demonstrated)
Qualities:
- Enthusiastic about growing the love of reading in the community
- Interested in children
- Able to engage with children and teachers
Location: Must live within walking distance of designated areas
Story Sparker Responsibilities:
Program Support:
- Conduct home visits to support parents with program content
- Support parent and community training workshops
Community Outreach:
- Assist with community mapping and participant recruitment
- Support activations to raise awareness about reading
Distribution:
- Distribute reading materials to parents and ECD centres
Promotion:
- Act as a brand ambassador and promote the project in the community
Reporting:
- Report on key activities
