As an intern with ASSITEJ SA, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of theatre for children and young people in South Africa.

1. Administrative Assistant – (Johannesburg and Cape Town) Intern x 2

We are looking for two Administrative assistants to perform various administrative tasks and support our programmes with day-to-day operations and record-keeping.

Job Purpose:

1. To assist the ASSITEJ SA Operations and Projects Department with handling office tasks, data capturing, assist with travel arrangements, minute taking, filing, information gathering on various projects and basic reporting duties.

2. To use the Kwantu App and update details of participants in the Social Employment Fund accurately and efficiently.

3. The successful candidate should be professional, polite and willing to handle challenges.

4. The Administrative Assistant intern must be comfortable with computers, with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc), general office tasks and communicate well in both written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities:

1. Answering incoming calls, making travel, meeting and workshop arrangements, taking minutes of meetings, preparing reports, maintaining filing systems, updating databases, managing supplies and acquiring quotes for services.

2. Keeping track of daily office expenditure accounts and assisting with financial reconciliations when necessary.

3. Assisting with practical preparations for in-person workshops, events etc.

4. Assisting with audience development, i.e. liaising with schools and community groups to buy tickets or take up sponsored places at performances and other ASSITEJ events.

5. Using computers to generate reports, transcribe minutes from meetings, transfer data from paper formats into computer files or database systems using in-house systems.

6. Verify data by comparing it to source documents, update existing data, retrieve data from the database or electronic files as requested.

7. On the job training will be provided.

2. Marketing and Communications (Johannesburg/Cape Town) – Intern 

We are looking for a Marketing and Communications assistant to contribute to our vibrant social media and communications work.

The candidate must be/have:

Between 18 - 34 years old and not have had permanent/formal employment before 

Based in Joburg and able to travel to Windybrow Arts Centre or Based in Cape Town and able to travel to Vrygrond Community Centre

A matric certificate or higher qualification

Able to use/operate Microsoft Office Suite(basicexcel knowledge essential.)

Knowledge of design tools such as CANVA, Audible and other tools would be necessary

Good computer skills- familiarity with Google Suite would be an advantage.

Able to work in a high-pressured environment and be able to take on different tasks simultaneously if need be

Excellent verbal and written command of English, with knowledge of other languages an advantage

Some knowledge about the theatre industry in South Africa (and theatre for young audiences in general) would be an advantage.

 Job Purpose:

1. To profile ASSITEJ SA and to communicate projects, programmes and policies about ASSITEJ SA on all online platforms and to market the Association to the general public and to key target markets;

2. To market ASSITEJ SA as a national brand through a variety of social media platforms;

3. To support aspects of the marketing and communications plan for ASSITEJ SA events

and to communicate about all aspects of the event to relevant parties.

Responsibilities:

1. To implement and report on a strategically planned marketing and communications programme and plan for ASSITEJ SA, in collaboration with a team comprising the Comms Officer, Marketing Officer, Social Media Officer and/orproject staff and the National Director.

2. To project a profile of ASSITEJ SA into the public and corporate space, through key messaging and compelling content stories.

3. To profile certain key projects of ASSITEJ SA through press releases, newsletters, video and photographic content and social media.

4. To market the Cradle of Creativity to schools, general audiences and to

delegates, and to communicate about all aspects of the event to all relevant parties.

5. To market all other events and projects of ASSITEJ SA as appropriate.

6. To assist with creating content for key communication and marketing channels e.g. website, monthly newsletters, social media, project videos, etc.

7. To design and edit visual and video/audio content for use on social media. 

8. To feed information on all activities nationally to the ASSITEJ SA head office to ensure visibility of the project/s and of activities in which members are engaged (liaising with members and with provincial Theatre4Youth reps to gather content).

9. To monitor Google Analytics and provide an overview of our website and social media statistics

10. To archive all mentions of ASSITEJ and ASSITEJ SA online, and to ensure a systematic approach to documentation in terms of collection and labelling of photographs, articles and other materials.

3. M&E and Research Intern (Johannesburg and Cape Town) Intern x 2

We are looking for an Intern with an interest in Research and M&E to support our programmes with focusing on the M&E systems and management.

The candidate must be/have:

Between 18 - 34 years old and not have had permanent/formal employment before

Based in Joburg and able to travel to Windybrow Arts Centre or Based in Cape Town and able to travel to Vrygrond Community Centre

A matric certificate or higher qualification

Able to use/operate Microsoft Office Suite- basic excel knowledge essential.

Good computer skills- familiarity with Google Suite would be an advantage.

Able to work in a high-pressured environment and be able to take on different tasks simultaneously if need be

Good verbal and written command of English, with knowledge of other languages an advantage

Must be able to pass criminal background checks and credit reference.

Some knowledge about the theatre industry in South Africa (and theatre for young audiences in general) would be an advantage.

Drivers licence would be an advantage

Minimum education level: Grade 12 /N4 (Matric)

Language(s): English

Hybrid working optional- will be required to be in the office at least 3 days of the week. Must be available to work a 40-hour work week.

Flexible to work on weekends when necessary.

Availability of change of residence: No

People with disabilities: Yes (Whilst we are keen to consider candidates who have physical disabilities, the premises from which we lease our office space is a national heritage house and has very little wheel chair access, there are stairs leading our offices on the 3rd Floor. For a successful candidate hybrid working conditions could be considered, but this would include some onsite meetings.)
