Apply now for the C40 Climate Action Implementation Africa Intern 2024. The Climate Action Implementation (CAI) Interns will support the various technical leads in delivering the technical components of the CAI Africa programme namely 1) waste, 2) energy, 3) mainstreaming and 4) climate finance.

The post holders will have a good understanding of how cities work, and will be familiar with the economic and political context of priority cities in the region. They will also have a good understanding of climate change and the role of developing cities in climate change response.

The post holders must be open to learning about new developments in climate science, policy, and technology. They should also be able to adapt to changing priorities and contribute to a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Knowledge management including compiling workshop reports, roadmaps, commitments;
  • Compilation and updating approved city strategies including policy amendments, best practice and lessons learned;
  • Online folder and data management. Updating cross team resources (e.g. the CAI Africa workshop tracker);
  • Support on logistics and workshop planning;
  • Report writing including rapporteur duties for various engagements.
  • Support in communications development and internal coordination on communication output within C40;
  • Project coordination for specific projects included under the four components of the CAI Africa programme. This includes communicating with multiple project stakeholders;
  • Ad-hoc research, collation of data and data analysis;
  • Provide review support RFPs - provide same support as below (flow, aesthetics, language editing etc);
  • Social media and marketing: Support CAs with developing comms outputs (particularly for workshops). Creating content for social media posts.

Person specification

  • Education in Social Sciences, International Relations, Policy, Urban Development, Environment or Engineering fields
  • Must have an understanding of the global south context. Volunteer experience and or academic experience will be considered.
  • Excellent project-management, strategic thinking and analytical capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience in working as part of a team, and in multicultural settings, and ability to manage multiple parallel tasks; and
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, combined with excellent English fluency and ability to write technical materials and document

Other Requirements:

Applicants must already have the right to work in their country of residence. A moderate level of travel might be included as part of the job.

Reporting To: Climate Finance Senior Manager and Technical Advisor Waste

Term: Fixed term until 31st May 2025

Location: Johannesburg

Salary: Intern - R180 000 per annum
