We seek dynamic, self-motivated individuals with the necessary technical ability wishing to qualify as an Artisan are invited to apply. The Apprenticeship Program affords the incumbent the opportunity to grow within AFGRI under the mentorship of our leaders, informal training as well as on the job development rotations in multidisciplinary teams.
AFGRI Apprenticeship Program: Key Points
Duration: 3-year in-service training experience
Qualification: Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic
Probation Period: First 6 months
Both company and apprentice can withdraw without consequences during this time.
Training:
- Practical Training Institute (as needed)
- Distance learning for N subjects at a College (Saturdays, as needed)
- Product Training at John Deere Training Facility and other suppliers
- Internal training by AFGRI specialists
Training Costs:
- Free if the apprentice passes the training.
- Apprentice needs to cover costs for any failed training modules.
Contract:
- Binds the apprentice to AFGRI for 3 years.
- Early withdrawal by the apprentice may incur costs based on time and phase.
- Expected work-back period to match training duration.
- Maximum contract length is 4 years (including probation).
- Contract expires if qualification is not achieved within 4 years.
The duties of the Apprentice will include:
- Trained to be a Tractor Mechanic / Technician
- Repair and maintenance of related equipment
- Responsible for stock control
- Customer service
- General work in the workplace

The minimum requirement for this application is:
- Valid Driver’s license
- Communication Skills
- Admin Skills
- Computer literacy
- N2 subjects:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Diesel Trade Theory and anyone of the following
- Industrial Electronics
- Engineering / Technical Drawing
- Motor Trade Theory
Should the applicant not have the N2 qualification, the Matric Certificate will also be taken into consideration if the applicant has subjects such as:
- Mathematics (Not Literacy) (At least 40% / E-Symbol)
- Technical Mathematics (Not Literacy) (At least 40% / E-Symbol)
- Physical Science (At least 40% / E-Symbol)
- Technical Science (At least 40% / E-Symbol)
- Engineering Graphics and Design (At least 40% / E-Symbol)
