Apply now for the CSSFF-SAMRC Internship Training Programme 2024. This opportunity is a partnership to train and build the African workforce in biopharmaceutical manufacturing in Africa. The programme is geared to enhance Africa’s health and biotechnology human capital and is an open call to candidates to specifically grow Africa’s workforce in vaccine manufacturing. 

Candidates who have graduated with a degree in health sciences, life sciences, chemistry (including process and analytical chemistry), chemical engineering, pharmacy and allied science degrees that are relevant for the health and biotechnology sector and for vaccine manufacturing are invited to apply. 

The lab-based training programme will cover rudimentary skills (both laboratory and soft skills) required in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and will extend through to key processes involved in up- and down-stream biopharmaceutical manufacturing and is based in Cape Town for the 6-month period. There is a possibility for an industry-related extension for an additional 4 months based on learning outcomes and specific performance criteria.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Technical laboratory-based skills
  • Biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes
  • Research report writing
  • Organization and management of data

Core Requirements:

  • Completed BSc or Honours degree in microbiology or biochemistry (or degree related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing)
  • Interest in and some understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Brief motivation on how this Programme will benefit your career and why you are suited for it (300 words max)
  • Computer literacy

A stipend will be granted per month.
